Join us for this one-day conference where you'll work side-by-side with your peers from other health-related professions learning and practicing the skills necessary to prepare for and respond effectively to disasters.

Theresa Bernardo, D.V.M. M.Sc.
Michigan State University, College of Veterinary Medicine

After spending 12 years at Michigan State University, Theresa Bernardo took a leave of absence in 2009 to join the Pan American Health Organization and was thrust into two public health emergencies: a worldwide flu epidemic (H1N1) and a devastating earthquake in Haiti. While working for the World Health Organization regional office, Bernardo used informational technologies to help deal with the crises and save lives in disaster situations.



Christine Hendrickson, Health Educator - Emergency Preparedness
Ingham County Health Department

Responsible for designing and updating the Ingham County Health Department's Emergency Operations Plan - which outlines how the Health Department would respond to public health emergencies/disasters - Hendrickson trains staff and volunteers in emergency response, and develops exercises which allow trainees to hone their disaster relief skills.



Bradley Deacon, J.D., Emergency Management and Administrative Law Coordinator
Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development

For more than eight years, Deacon has developed a wide variety of programs to assist both the private sector and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, prevent and response to disasters. He works closely with the State Animal Response Team, the Michigan Citizen-Community Emergency Response Coordinating Council and other state and national organizations involved in food and agricultural protection.
